Should I choose a steel or an aluminum toolbox?

Answer:

Steel is the more traditional material for toolboxes as it is heavier, tougher and more resistant to dents. Steel toolboxes are covered with a powder coat finish to protect the steel from corrosion. Aluminum, meanwhile, will not rust or deteriorate, and is also durable and lightweight. Our aluminum toolboxes have a rugged diamond plate pattern.

What is the Raise and Release latching system and how do I use it?

Answer:

The Raise and Release latching system keeps drawers closed and secure. To open a drawer, lift up on the drawer front while pulling towards you. To close a drawer, shut the drawer firmly until the latch engages.

What are ball bearing drawer slides?

Answer:

Ball bearing drawer slides contain small metal balls that assist in opening and closing the drawers. Because ball bearings roll rather than slide, the drawers are easier to open and close.

What does the maximum product weight mean?

Answer:

The maximum product weight is the total maximum combined weight of the unit and all of the contents. This capacity is largely determined by the load rating of the casters – the larger the load rating, the more weight the cabinet will hold. Please consult your owner’s manual to find the maximum product weight for your unit.

How do I clean and maintain my painted steel tool chest or cabinet?

Answer:
  • Lubricate casters with high quality bearing grease, once a year.
  • Lubricate slides with a product like WD40 or another quality lubricant, twice a year. This is especially important in low temperatures, which can cause the bearing to become stiff.
  • Periodically clean drawer fronts, drawer trim and other surfaces with mild detergent and water.
  • Auto wax will preserve the luster finish. Apply the wax as you would to a card. The wax will also help protect the unit against scratches. Note that you should not use auto wax on units with a wrinkle or textured finish.
  • Grease and oil can be removed with most standard cleaning fluids. For safety, use a nonflammable cleaning fluid.

Can I change my locks so both my tool chest and cabinet use the same key?

Answer:

Yes, you can replace the locks on one unit to match the other unit. To order a matching lock, please contact our US support center with the part number for your lock (located in your owner’s manual) and the key code on the face of the lock. How do I choose the right tool chest or cabinet?

Answer:

Consider the following questions when choosing to purchase a new tool chest or cabinet:

  • How many tools do you need store? Gather and count your current tool collection. Your tool storage will need to fit it all – pay special attention to the size and cubic storage capacity of the models you are considering. Also, consider that you may want to purchase new tools in the future, so you need to have room to grow. Our tool storage options are flexible: you can start with just a chest or cabinet, and then add the matching unit later. We also offer numerous accessories, such as side boxes that mount to the side of tool cabinets, side lockers that mount to the side of full chest and cabinet combinations, workbenches and service carts.
  • What size are your tools? If you need to store mostly small items such as hand tools or parts, choose a unit with a lot of shallow drawers, or choose one of your portable toolboxes. If you need to store mostly bulky items like power tools, choose a unit with deep drawers or a bulk storage area.
  • How much room do you have in your workspace? We offer toolboxes as narrow as 26” and as wide as 72” to fit any possible space.
  • How much portability do you need? Can you get away with a stationary tool chest, or will a rolling tool cabinet make your work easier? We also offer a range of portable toolboxes that can be mounted on trucks or other vehicles.

What should I do if a drawer with Raise and Release does not stay closed?

Answer:

The hook may be bent or it may be rubbing against the drawer slides. To fix this problem, lightly bend the hook until the drawer will engage in the slide.

What does the ball bearing slide weight mean?

Answer:

Our ball bearing drawer slides come with several different weight capacities, the most common ones being 250 lb, 100 lb, and 50 lb. This is the maximum weight that a drawer with one set of slides can hold. Drawers with dual slides sets will have double the capacity. For example, a drawer with two 100 lb slides on either side will hold up to 200 lb.

Should I choose a steel or a stainless steel toolbox?

Answer:

Steel is the more traditional material for toolboxes, and is heavier, tougher and more resistant to dents. Steel toolboxes are covered with a powder coat finish to protect the steel from corrosion. Stainless steel, meanwhile, is a premium material that is more corrosion resistant – without the need for a powder coat finish – and can be polished to a brilliant shine.

How do I clean and maintain my stainless steel tool chest or cabinet?

Answer:
  • Lubricate casters with high quality bearing grease, once a year.
  • Lubricate slides with a spray lubricate or light duty oil, twice a year.
  • When dusting, use a soft, clean cloth that will not scratch the surface.
  • Liquid spills should be removed immediately. Using a soft and clean cloth, blot the spill gently. Avoid rubbing.
